This ocean-side championship course presents 18 holes of wide lush fairways Bermuda grass putting surfaces and numerous sand traps. The Ocean Course at Kona Country Club designed by William Bell is located on the Pacific Coast with spectacular views of the nearby mountains. This course and the other course on this property the Mountain Course were distinctively and innovatively designed to be enjoyed by both novices and scratch and low-handicap golfers. These 2 courses were built in 1966 maintaining their charm by using natural surroundings along the Pacific and fabulous mountain vistas. The picture-perfect signature holes are number 3 and number 12. A surprise in the form of a "grand splash" awaits golfers on hole 13. Humpback whales can be seen in season between November and March. The LPGA played this course in 2000 and 2001. Natural hazards are the turquoise Pacific Ocean water and rocks of lava. Kona Country Club was picked as one of the top one hundred courses by Golf Digest and Golf for Women Magazine. ESPN Zagat Guide recognizes Kona Country Club as one of Nation s top golf courses sporting a rating of "excellent" as voted by players in America s top Golf Courses.
